Professor Anil K. Makhija is the David A. Rismiller Professor of Finance at the Fisher College at The Ohio State University. He chairs Fisher College’s Department of Finance, which is ranked among the top 10 for research productivity in comparisons of finance departments internationally. He received a PhD in Finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, an MBA from Tulane University, and a bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi. Professor Makhija’s research and teaching interests are in the field of corporate finance, and focus on issues relating to corporate governance, capital structure, and investment policy. His recent published research examines corporate governance and privatization in Eastern Europe, the role of banks in the governance of firms, and how legal actions perform as forms of corporate governance. He is currently working on the impact of corporate governance on bondholders, how banks and bondholders are affected by takeovers, and economic value added as a basis for managerial incentives and performance measurement. For most of the past decade, he has been an editor of Advances in Financial Economics, which has published several issues on corporate governance in the U.S. and around the world. His work has appeared in top journals, including the Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, and Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis.
