I am not strong in math but really want to study at the IMQF program. What should I do?
Starting in 2009-2010 we offer a non-obligatory preparatory course in mathematics, which should start in September and last until roughly the testing date. The purpose of the course is to help prospective applicants and others who are not math, physics or engineering majors become familiar with the basic math concepts and tools that are necessary to succeed in the IMQF or, more generally, in modern finance. In particular, the course prepares you to take the math part of the Assessment Exam that the IMQF program administers prior to the commencement of the program.
More broadly, the course helps you make up some of your math and computer skill deficiencies prior to entering into the IMQF program. Math, statistics, and Excel modelling skills are covered, especially as they apply to practical finance problems, thus making it clear that they are not some abstract formulas, but, rather, tools that help serious finance players make money on the market.
The course is highly recommended for those who have studied economics, business, law and other non-quantitative majors that need training in math, statistics, and Excel. It is also great for those interested in taking, later, the quantitative skills portion of the CFA Exams.
More information about the preparatory course can be obtained from the Program Administrator and will soon be available on the Web.
